David Karofsky, CEO
David Karofsky has over 25 years of experience specializing in advising family businesses around the challenges and opportunities inherent to the family business. His client work is focused on building alignment around communication, executing the transition of ownership and leadership, conflict resolution, strategic planning, and forming governance structures for family businesses.
Prior to partnering with his father at Transition Consulting Group, David was Vice-President of Marketing for a software start-up where he helped launch the company and raise over $10 Million in funding. Prior to that, David spent 8 years at EMC Corporation holding various corporate roles including managing operations for worldwide marketing.
His interest in family business consulting was launched with his course work in family business dynamics at the Cambridge Center for Creative Enterprise. David’s work helping corporate executives develop superior listening and communication skills was honed by his professional training in executive team building, strategic decision making, effective communication, managing people, matrix management, and performance enhancement.
The recipient of multiple achievement awards, David has been a guest speaker internationally and is a mentor to current and former MBA students at Northeastern University’s Graduate School of Business and serves on the Marketing Career Track Advisory Board. He is a founding member and former chair of the Boston chapter of the Young Presidents’ Organization’s Young Adult Forum, member of the Family Firm Institute where he holds certificates in Family Wealth Advising and Advanced Family Business Advising with Fellow Status, former member of the Board of Directors of the Mazie Mentoring Program and a former member of the Executive Board of Directors for the Men’s Associates at Hebrew SeniorLife.
David is co-author, with his father, Paul, of So You’re in the Family Business: A Guide to Sustainability. He is a graduate of Bowdoin College and received his Ed.M. in Counseling Psychology from Boston University and his MBA from Northeastern University.
David and his wife, Jennifer, reside in Framingham, Massachusetts, while their two adult children live in Santa Barbara, California. In addition to being a proud husband and father, David enjoys hiking and pickleball and is an avid golfer.
David is a Principal at The Family Business Consulting Group and runs new consulting engagements through that firm.

Adam Karofsky, Consultant
Adam Karofsky is a consultant with Transition Consulting Group, where he works with family-owned businesses on succession planning, next-generation engagement, and navigating complex family dynamics. Adam specializes in fostering authentic communication in family business environments, helping family firms move forward together.
One of the world’s only third-generation family business consultants, Adam grew up immersed in the field, learning firsthand from both his father and grandfather. This unique upbringing, combined with his own professional experience, allows him to bring a perspective that blends practical insight with a deep understanding of the relational and strategic challenges families face in business.
Before joining Transition Consulting Group, Adam founded a ghostwriting practice, creating books and articles for business owners across industries, including family business, hospitality, and mental health. He has written on a variety of topics, including succession and legacy, organizational operating systems, and wealth dynamics among ultra-high-net-worth individuals. Adam also currently serves as Director of Membership for the Family Firm Institute, a global membership organization for professionals who work with family enterprises.
Adam holds a bachelor’s degree in Anthropology from the University of Massachusetts’ Commonwealth Honors College, graduating summa cum laude, and an MBA with a specialization in Entrepreneurship and Family Enterprise from Louisiana State University. He has also earned certificates in Family Business Advising and Family Wealth Advising from the Family Firm Institute, as well as certificates in Workplace Communication and Career and Self-Development from NimblyWise.
Based in Santa Barbara, California, Adam lives with his wife, Ashley, and their Australian Shepherd, Derek. Outside of consulting, he enjoys golf, martial arts, backpacking, and hiking.
